Lisa's Story

Lisa hails from an impressive family lineage, with loving parents and three siblings—a brother and two sisters. Amidst their demanding careers, she prioritizes cherished moments with her family. Her roots are a tapestry of Dominican heritage and American patriotism, tracing back to her grandparents' legal emigration to the U.S. in the late 1970s. They left their native land in pursuit of better opportunities, setting the stage for her parents, and eventually, Lisa and her siblings, to establish their lives in Washington Heights during the 1980s. Throughout her life, Lisa has experienced the diverse communities of the city, enriching her perspective.
During her summer break, she landed a receptionist role at a fabric brokerage, thanks to her aunt who designed patterns for Calvin Klein. Here, Lisa found her passion and went on to build her career in the textile and fashion industry.
Lisa thrived in the dynamic world of textiles and garments, preferring active roles over desk jobs. While attending FIT, she gained comprehensive industry experience, starting as a paper design sales assistant to fabric brokers in the garment industry. Next, she was a salesperson for a trim company, working with notable clients like Diane Von Furstenberg and Betsey Johnson. During this time, Lisa joined forces with a well-known denim retail leader and manufacturer in the young contemporary market in Mexico. As the Chief Merchandising Officer for AB Adrian Bortoni specialty retail chain and manufacturer. She expanded the business from a handful of stores to over 50, while significantly growing their wholesale market in Mexico.

Fast forward, this opportunity cemented Lisa’s aesthetic vision and provided her the experience and confidence to create a buying service for major US retailers, advising on trend investments and timing. Collaboration has been a cornerstone of her career, fostering both financial and emotional rewards.
Lisa leverages her extensive network, guiding factories into the US market with her strategic vision. Today, she partners with factories in China, Vietnam, and Mexico to produce products that are carefully designed and merchandised in the US.
Lisa cherishes her family life which includes the family that she was born into and the family that she has made along the way. Building and nurturing relationships in her community and in the workplace with her beloved and valued employees is what brings her the most joy. She has a passion for people and her faith. Recently, she renewed her connection with the Catholic Church, attending services every Sunday. As a true New Yorker, she embraces friends from diverse backgrounds, enjoying lively debates while respecting their differing opinions.
